The Lonely Fight: A History of AIDS in Maine

December 1, 2013 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In 1981, the nation was hit with what would become the worst pandemic in our history.   As fear, discrimination, and stigma gripped families and individuals facing tragedy, an unlikely hero emerged in Maine determined to change the way people dealt with the disease.  Frannie Peabody dedicated herself to helping others, and in the process, taught us how to care for each other.  Her efforts, and those of the organizations she supported, shaped Maine’s approach to AIDS by means of compassion and respect.  More than thirty years after the first case was reported, in Maine and around the world, we are still struggling to turn the tide on AIDS – a battle no one should have to fight alone.**

Please join us for a special event on World AIDS day on December 1st from 5-7p

This exhibit runs from Dec 1st- Dec 6th only. Closing reception on Dec 6th between 5-8pm

**This exhibit received generous support from the Maine Humanities Council (MHC)
