ATC/MTC Producer/Host

“All Things Considered”/”Maine Things Considered” Producer/Host
 
OK, so you won’t be the new voice of NPR, but you can live in the great state of Maine AND be the new Producer/Host of Maine Public Broadcasting’s afternoon/evening drive program block of All Things Considered/Maine Things Considered.

The Producer/Host will anchor MPBN’s award-winning afternoon/evening news block, which will include local and regional content designed to help meet the organization’s strategic priorities. This individual will contribute to MPBN’s daily reporting through produced reports, live or taped interviews and breaking news coverage; maintain MPBN’s high standard of excellence through exemplary journalistic integrity and ethics; and uphold the MPBN standard of sound, style and unique station quality through a conversational, engaging and professional delivery. The Producer/Host will assist MPBN in becoming a “digital first” workplace and organization, supporting and enhancing efforts to provide content to and for all digital platforms. As a prominent station voice, the Producer/Host will represent MPBN in the community at public and station events, meetings and other activities.

Develop, produce, execute and host MPBN’s All Things Considered/Maine Things Considered afternoon/evening news block.
Host assigned time period with a confident, professional, engaging and, when appropriate, personable style adhering to MPBN sound/style and unique station quality.
Engage in daily live and taped reporting, producing and interviewing.
Assist in helping MPBN achieve and maintain a “digital first” priority.
Develop and maintain sources. Help to maintain and update schedule of news events.
Represent MPBN at public and station events through attendance, involvement and public speaking.
Participate in MPBN’s social media interaction as appropriate and assigned.
Produce and host other programs, news, series, segments and specials as assigned.
Participate in fundraising events for MPBN.
Operate studio equipment and read station announcements and messages.
Be on-call 24 hours a day to cover breaking news and as fill-in for radio news producers.
Assist radio operations as needed.
Provide information to other departments and radio operations for publicity and promotional use.
Keep records of radio programming and provide reports as requested.
Other reasonably-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required.
An experienced host, with at least two years’ work experience in journalism and radio news production, required.
Proven and confident journalist with a commitment to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards.
Conversational, professional, engaging and personable hosting style, with solid experience in reporting, live interviews, breaking news, and hosting of radio programs.
Ability to work well under pressure, on deadline and to multitask, essential.
Familiarity with computers, digital editing and digital production/hosting required.
Previous public radio experience preferred.
Familiarity with Maine and regional issues a plus.
NOTE: This position will require some evening and weekend work and occasional travel throughout the state of Maine.

This position is located at MPBN’s facility in Portland, Maine.
