LOAN INFO »
Because Salt is not a degree-seeking institution, we cannot process federal loans (such as FAFSA or Stafford Loans).* However, you are able to apply for private loans to finance your education (see below). Although researching and securing a loan is solely the responsibility of the student, we are here to help as much as we can along the way.
NOTE » Loan companies create their own disbursement schedule for loan funds. Therefore, in order to avoid a LATE FEE for a late Tuition Payment, please submit documentation that includes the amount of your loan and the scheduled disbursement date(s)to admissions@salt.edu prior to your tuition due date.
Attending Salt for GRADUATE CREDIT?
If so, you are able to apply for a private loan for your education through your bank or a private lending institution. Every lender does things differently, but such loans are typically referred to as career training, alternative education, professional development loans, etc.
When you attend Salt as a grad student, you receive graduate credits through the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. So when you apply for one of the private loans mentioned above, do so as a student of the University of New England. If their profile isn't in your lender's system, use their OPE ID #205000 to get started. Recently, our students have had good experiences with loans through Wells Fargo and Citibank, among others.
Should you already be enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program, then the same rules below apply to you.
Attending Salt for UNDERGRADUATE CREDIT?
* If you are already enrolled in an undergraduate, it is possible to use your federal funding to finance your Salt education through something called a Host Consortium Agreement between Salt and your home institution, if they are willing.
Begin by checking with your school's financial aid office regarding the possibility of a host consortia. Often, they will need more information from us regarding the courses taken and credits received as a Salt student. Please contact us at admissions@salt.edu for any information.
Salt also accepts AMERICORPS and GI BILL funds »
For Americorps, if your funds have already been released by Americorps and you have beeen accepted by Salt, then simply logon to their website and submit a request for funds to be dispersed to us. As long as the money has been released by Americorps, you may use both stipends for your Salt education.
For GI Bill, it's important for you to work directly with your military liason to process the paperwork needed to access your GI Bill.
